Amidst the historical setting of downtown Chilliwack surrounding the Clock Tower, over 300 classic cars will line downtown streets for the annual HUB International Barton Insurance Village Classic Car Show, hosted by the Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association (BIA). Car enthusiasts will be able to share in the memories of those amazing classic cars.
“The Village Classic Car Show is always a highlight of the year for me,” says BIA executive director Kathy Funk. “With kids out of school for the summer, families are looking for great, free activities to entertain themselves with, and the car show is the perfect way to kick off the season.”
The BIA creates the outdoor show-and-shine into an event for the whole family by setting up a live entertainment stage on the steps of the Chilliwack Law Courts. A variety of food vendors will be on-site, and many downtown Chilliwack businesses will open for special Sunday shopping hours.
“Showcasing the evolution of automobiles, a number of local dealerships will display their best new vehicles in the show,” says Desmond Devnich, BIA event coordinator. Adding some new features this year is part of the progression of any great event. “We’re introducing a new section on Victoria Avenue dedicated exclusively to tuner cars and custom builds,” says event chairperson, Dave Van Dongen. “Tuner cars, for those unfamiliar with the lingo, are vehicles that have been modified for improved performance or appearance,” Van Dongen explained.
The 11th Annual HUB International Barton Insurance Village Classic Car Show returns to downtown Chilliwack on Sunday, June 23 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Vehicle registration is required and takes place at the Chilliwack Landing Sports Centre on Spadina Avenue from 7:00 to 9:00am.
